Ichiro’s Malt Double Distilleries Pure Malt Japanese Whisky
The Double Distilleries pure malt whisky combines malts from the closed Hanyu and new Chichibu distilleries. The Akuto family, whose history with sake production dates back to the 17th century, had operated the Hanyu distillery up until 2000 when the distillery was silenced due to financial difficulties and eventually dismantled in 2004 under new ownership. Bottled at 46% it has been matured, vatted and bottled at Ichiro Akuto’s Chichibu distillery.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Plenty of oak with sweet aromas and slightly floral. Green fruits take the lead of pears and apples.
Taste: More green fruits and sweetness with plenty of oak. Some spices of nutmeg and cinnamon. The mouthfeel does have a soapy effect.
Finish: Lots of sweet spices, plenty of drying oak, liquorice, and creamy mint ice cream.

Akashi White Oak Aged 3 Years Japanese Blended Whisky
Another superb release from this small Japanese distillery. Given the history of this distillery it’s not a surprise that they decided to mature some of their spirit in ex-Sake barrels. We are not sure this has ever been achieved or tried before but we know the outcome is very special indeed.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Toasted walnuts and vanilla combine with a little earthy note.
Palate: Citrus and stewed fruits, chocolate, banana, apples and oily.
Finish: Black tea, hints of peat and vanilla.
